PERSONNEL CERTIFICATION SCHEMES

CSWIP (Certification Scheme For Welding And Inspection Personnel) Levels 1, 2 and 3

CSWIP is one of the most recognised certification schemes for NDT, covering various methods and levels of certification.

PCN (Personnel Certification in Non-Destructive Testing) Levels 1, 2 and 3

An internationally recognised certification scheme covering all NDT methods and levels of certification.

ACCP (ASNT Central Certification Program) Levels I, II and III

TWI is approved by ASNT to train and certify personnel in accordance with ASNT Central Certification Program (ACCP). This program has generated a great deal of interest as more companies seek certification that meets ISO requirements. ACCP offers an attractive alternative to existing schemes.

 

COMPANY CERTIFICATION SCHEMES

TWI offers company certification under the CSWIP Employer Certification Scheme and SNT-TC-1A requirements. Training and certification programs may be customised for your company to suit the specific needs of your personnel qualification requirements. Qualifications only apply to your company and are valid whilst personnel work for that company.

TWI has the capability to train and certify personnel on-site or in our training centre. Other NDT services such as procedure writing, consultancy, skills auditing and problem-solving are also available to TWI-SEA.

Suitability

Engineers, surveyors, QA/QC inspectors requiring a general knowledge of NDT methods and requiring some hands-on experience.

Course Content

Appraisal of internationally recognised certification schemes, international standards, procedures, report and instruction formats. NDT methods with demonstrations; surface methods; magnetic particle and penetrant inspection; methods for internal examinations; X and gamma radiography, ultrasonic flaw detections; standard techniques; choice of methods in relation to materials, defect type, position and weld geometry; equipment available and proprietary manufactures.

Entry Requirements

The minimum required duration of training, which includes both theoretical and practical elements, is:

•Level 1 - 40 hours

•Level 2 - 80 hours

The minimum duration for experience prior to or following success in the qualification examination is:

•Level 1 - 3 months

•Level 2 - 9 months

 

Course Content

Weld defects and their components; viewing conditions; identification of radiographs; spurious indications; appreciation of radiographic principles and parameters of interpretation; standards for radiographic practice, interpretation tutorial; acceptance criteria. The course ends with a written and practical test.

Inspectors, testers, surveyors and NDT personnel who require a basic introduction to ultrasonic testing.

Course Content

Principles of ultrasonics; properties of sound; waves, frequencies, sound beam, attenuation; thickness gauges and flaw detectors, ultrasonic compression probes; calibration blocks, calibration, sensitivity, sizing techniques; practical exercises on various test specimens; testing of parent plates; lamination and thickness measurement; report and instruction writing.
